Back to school season is here! And that’s the Greesonbach household’s excuse to check all of our basics and make sure we’re in good shape for JHubb’s school year and the coming Christmas season.
Here’s a look at what we’re picking up for JHubbs to keep his lizard-sun-loving-body warm through the winter:
1MX Express Dress Shirts
We’ve been buying these shirts from Express for years, and my favorite part is that we’ve only had to buy them a couple times! (Here’s a similar look from Calvin Klein). At $69 per shirt, it hurts to buy them. But JHubbs has one or two that have lasted five years of near-constant wear. Is that awesome or what? They also look sharp under a suit, by themselves, for school or for concerts.
This year we picked up one red one (pictured above) and one extra white one. JHubbs already has two white ones, one light purple one, and two gorgeous navy ones. Consider him stocked!
JHubbs is a hard-to-fit guy on the bottom, owing to his muscular yet whimsical legs ;-). Express has always done him right, especially in the hard-to-find jean and khaki fits. (Here’s a similar-fit style from Dickies). We were going to order one of each of the khakis and the jeans, but we decided to go with two pairs of khakis because that’s how JHubbs likes to roll during the school year. (We also already have a pair of the jeans that are doing him right for now).
As the photo reads, these boots are waterproof, warm, & khaki-friendly. At least that’s how we remember them from when JHubbs had a pair a few years ago. They lasted him through high school and college, so we figure it’s time to try them again.
The rest of our purchases will be basics like socks and undershirts. Which brings up a very important part: how much are you motivated by brand names?
For some things, it doesn’t seem very important. But for other things, like shoes and women’s clothing, it can really affect the quality of the product you get (and how long it can be used).
As I read tons of Amazon reviews, it looks like the quality of well-known brands (Gold Toe socks, Calvin Klein undergarments, Tommy Hilfiger socks, etc) have really plummeted in the past few years. At what point are you truly better quality and at what point are you just getting hosed?
