The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind —
This quote came to my inbox from a priest’s blog I’ve just subscribed to. It fits not just with Catholicism, but also with anything that you feel strongly and hope to evangelize about (emotional health, diet choices, minimalism). You can’t just scream it out loud and assume everyone will pick up what you’re laying down.
Anything good, lasting, or truthful takes a long time to unfold in someone’s heart and mind. I think that means that instead of bullhorns, we are meant to be gardeners. Tend the ideas with our own examples. And when people are ready, they’ll do the digging and talking and finding out.
(Easier said than done, but I’ll give it a try!).
