Earlier this summer, Josh and I coordinated an IndieGOGO fundraiser for his first studio experience.
The album releases on my birthday, October 18, where it will be available on iTunes, Spotify, and all those way official places.
Our excitement level? Past burnout, through exhaustion, and right into blissful amazement.
The recording process is so emotional and hard and awesome and core-shaking. You really have to decide some things in the process.
But one part that has been super fun? Watching Josh learn TONS about playing and recording music, learning his instrument, and finding his sound. Here’s his sound in the form of AWESOME cover songs that we doled out as perks to dear supporters.
Frank Sinatra’s “You Make Me Feel So Young”
This might be my favorite cover and music video — all from Josh! If you love this classic old song and classic garage bands like Weezer, then this is for you:
Weezer’s “Island in the Sun”
Speaking of Weezer, Josh took that classic and alluring California whine to this cover, too:
Iron Butterfly’s “In A Gadda Da Vida”
We had no idea what to expect from Josh’s cover of this 70s rock ballad. His version made me like the song!
Led Zepplin’s “Stairway to Heaven”
Maybe I’m just not a fan of classic rock anymore, but this is another song that Josh’s cover made me like! The video was made tongue-in-cheek about Classic Rock Ennui, but the words and lyrics are all the more meaningful when Josh sings them. And oh, I have a cameo solo in the end of this one ;-).
Each song takes Josh 3-5 hours to record. He plays all of the instruments and does all of the arrangements. I Yoko-out and provide some post-production editing comments and changes when necessary.
Photo slide shows for the videos (Weezer and Led Zepplin) take about a half hour to create. A legit music video takes another 3-5 hours to record the videos, edit, and then coordinate with the music. WOOF!
