Sorry to get all finance-y three weeks in a row, but Kali wrote about breaking some rules by selling her house and Cait wrote about those “expert” numbers and how good they really are for your finances…. and there it was again, money on my mind!
This is especially frustrating because I permanently deleted our family budget from my Google Drive (I thought I was deleting a back up… but here we are) and now I can’t play with our monthly numbers. Which I love to do to brainstorm and dream and see what else we can squeeze out of our income.
But anyway — about those expected numbers. Here’s what I grew up expecting to spend:
25 Percent – Housing and Utilities
10 Percent – Savings
“As little as possible” – Food and Spending
Not the most scientific assessment, eh? Especially compared to our actual spending numbers.
At the end of the day, I completely support Cait’s proposal that you live on as little of your income as possible. Budget for some fun things every once in a while, but otherwise save, save, save! Just for fun! Make a hobby out of it! The more you make, the easier this is, but the sky is the limit when you get hardcore about your goals!
